The Mentor football team remains the top-ranked team in the Division I Associated Press poll, as well as first in the Division I, Region 1 computer ratings. Mentor (6-0) has a rather comfortable lead in the AP poll, which is a voting system conducted via media members from throughout the state. Mentor gleaned eight first-place votes and 124 total voting points to outdistance Cincinnati Winton Woods and Cincinnati Moeller, which are tied in second with 106 points. Mentor travels to Shaker Heights in Week 7. Other News-Herald coverage area schools who are ranked in this week’s AP poll are: • Gilmour (6-0), which is eighth in D-III, just a few slots ahead of 10th-ranked VASJ (5-1). Benedictine (4-2) is 17th and Chardon (3-2) 18th in D-III. • Lake Catholic (6-0), which is ranked second in D-IV, one slot behind Sandusky Perkins and one slot ahead of Perry (5-1). • Kirtland (6-0), which is second to Coldwater in D-VI. In the computer ratings, 22 News-Herald teams are currently ranked in the top 16 of their respective divisions.
