Browns defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. has been suspended five games without pay by the NFL for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy stemming from an arrest on charges of domestic violence in August. The punishment is retroactive to the season opener, which means Hall’s suspension will end after the Browns play the Commanders on Oct. 6 in Washington, D.C. He can be reinstated Oct. 7 and play against the Eagles on Oct. 13. Hall, a second-round draft pick from Ohio State, has been on the Commissioner’s exempt list since rosters were trimmed to 53 on Aug. 27. The designation made him ineligible to play while the NFL conducted its investigation on allegations Hall held a handgun to the temple of his fiancee during an argument Aug. 12 at their home in Avon. Hall missed the Browns’ first four games while on the exempt list. The alleged victim’s name was redacted in the Aug. 13 police report. In addition to allegedly holding a gun to her head, Hall also allegedly hit her with a baby bottle. The woman is the mother of a one-year-old child she and Hall share and a five-year-old girl from another father. The alleged dispute was about a $1,500 dental procedure the five-year-old needed. The mother asked Hall to pay for it. He said the girl’s father should, but the mother said the girl’s father did not have the funds. Hall on Aug. 13 pleaded “not guilty” to the domestic violence charge. He was back in court on Sept. 19 and pleaded “no contest” to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct. “I regret this whole situation,” Hall said in the courtroom. “I’m getting counseling and trying to better myself.” The plea deal had no effect on the NFL’s investigation into the incident. The suspension means Hall is losing 5/18 of his 2024 base salary of $795,000. That works out to a fine of $220,833. Browns at Commanders When: 1 p.m., Oct. 6 Where: Northwest Stadium, Landover, Md.
