FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Detectives have arrested a man for stealing over $6,500 of lottery tickets around Fairfax County throughout September, according to the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD). According to FCPD, on Sept. 15, officers responded to a convenience store in the 2900 block of Chain Bridge Road in Oakton for a report of a larceny and assault. Officers then learned that Mohammad Akhtar, 39, of Reston, allegedly went behind the counter and stole lottery tickets while the clerk was distracted. When the clerk returned, Akhtar assaulted him before running away, according to police. The clerk sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Man arrested for stealing from CVS stores in DC 23 times, stealing over $6K worth of merchandise Detectives began investigating and determined that Akhtar was linked to several similar cases involving over $6,500 worth of stolen lottery tickets from Sept. 11 to Sept. 25. According to police, he stole from six locations around the county, stealing from two of the locations twice. On Sept. 26, officers arrested Akhtar. He was charged with grand larceny, five counts of larceny by false pretense and five counts of petit larceny. Authorities are holding him at the Fairfax County Detention Center without bond.
