MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 23-year-old Gilroy man died after crashing into a pole Saturday in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP says around 6:28 p.m., officers responded to the area of Franklin Road, north of Highway 140 for a solo vehicle crash into a utility pole.  When officers arrived, they found the man lying in the passenger side floorboard area. Medical personnel immediately rendered aid, however, he died at the scene. Investigators say the 23-year-old man was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado when the driver traveled off the road and crashed into the utility pole. Officers say the driver was not wearing his seat belt. Alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
