The empty Kellari Tavern space on K Street NW. | Barbouzard Barbouzard takes tips from seaside French towns like Saint-Tropez and Cannes. The former Kellari Tavern space in Farragut Square is transforming into an ambitious new restaurant. Barbouzard will bring a vibrant vacation vibe to the 6,493-square-foot space, transporting diners to beachside towns along the Mediterranean Sea (1700 K Street NW). HapstakDemetriou will fully renovate the previous Greek spot, which closed earlier this year after a decade of business. For its new life as Barbouzard, added features will include a piano, DJ booth, and outdoor veranda. The expansive 180-seat restaurant will include striking design elements, including steel and glass structures softened by layered textiles. The French-Mediterranean menu will feature seasonal ingredients, premium seafood and meats, charcuterie and cheeses, and fresh bread and pastries. Bubbly will flow from a newly added champagne lounge, along with an extensive list of Old World wines and cocktails. Live music will also be part of the dining experience, with a resident DJ and performances by pianists, saxophonists, and violinists in the expansive dining room. The three new owners are pulling from their extensive travels and varied backgrounds to build the upscale restaurant. Co-owner Dany Abi-Najm grew up in the restaurant business and is the president of the Lebanese Taverna Group, an extensive DMV chain started by his parents 45 years ago in Arlington, Virginia. Nasr El Hage and Nellie Elana Gebrail are both in the real estate and private equity industries, with El Hage co-founding D.C.-based Ritz Banc Group. The co-owners hope to debut the new restaurant by spring 2025.
