WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The Wichita City Council voted to approve several items on Tuesday's agenda. CHENEY LAKE DAM REPAIR, PUMP STATION The council voted 7-0 to approve nearly $14 million to fix the dam at Cheney Lake. The City of Wichita is taking advantage of the low lake levels to make repairs from erosion around the conservation pool. In previous repairs, the lake required lowering. "The good news about the drought is that we now have the ability to get that done without artificially lowering the Cheney Lake levels," City Manager Robert Layton said. The council also approved $400,000 to replace equipment at the Cheney Pump Station, which supplies water to Wichita. The equipment prevents invasive zebra mussels from getting into the water treatment facilities. INTERVENTION CRISIS TEAMS GRANT APPROVAL Council members voted 7-0 to approve a grant application to add four additional law enforcement officers to ICT (Intervention Crisis Teams). "The first ICT team had a law enforcement officer, as well as a mental health worker and a paramedic, so the ICT 2,3,4,5 did not have a law enforcement officer, but that is actually a best practice when you have law enforcement there to help with the situation, making sure that it is safe," said Mayor Lily Wu. The Wichita Police Department is applying for $496,159 in grant funds for personnel to enhance the ICT teams and $42,800 for radio and body armor equipment for the ICT teams.
