It was a busy weekend in the Uinta Mountains with peak leaf viewing and the shifting of seasons from summer to fall.Within the mountain range, Summit County Search and Rescue fielded a few calls from outdoor enthusiasts in need of assistance. The first call came in on Saturday. Search and Rescue crews were notified about a hiker with a collapsed lung in the Kings Peak area, according to a report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. However, a medical helicopter located and retrieved the man before local resources were dispatched. The man was taken to a nearby hospital.Kings Peak is the highest peak in Utah, and the trail covers about 27 miles. Hikers say it’s a moderate climb for the first stretch, but then it turns rocky. Kings Peak reaches an elevation of 13,528 feet, and hikers must complete a gain of over 4,000 feet to make the trek to the top. It’s estimated to take around 12 hours to complete.The next day, a possible missing hiker was reported at the Ruth Lake trailhead. A man said his wife called him and said she was “panicking because she was lost.” The woman was in her early 60s and alone. Her last known location was Lofty Lake.Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the trailhead. Then, the man called back to inform them the woman had returned to her car and was on her way home, according to the report.Search and Rescue was notified about the incident but never activated. The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Sept. 23, and Sunday, Sept. 29, including reports of driving under the influence, active warrants and trespassing.Friday, Sept. 27Deputies observed a suspicious woman at Rockport Reservoir. A records check showed she had several active state warrants. She was taken into custody. Thursday, Sept. 26Deputies conducted a traffic stop on eastbound Interstate 80. The vehicle was unable to operate within a single lane. Deputies smelled alcohol on the driver, and he performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test. The man was arrested for suspected DUI. A search of the car revealed multiple open containers of alcohol in the vehicle’s cabin. The driver was taken to the Summit County Jail without incident. A car was stopped near mile marker 159 on westbound I-80 for speeding. Deputies smelled marijuana coming from inside the car and launched an investigation. Marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia was found inside. The driver was cited and released.A single-vehicle car accident was reported in the Snyderville Basin. The male driver displayed obvious signs of impairment and smelled strongly of alcohol. He performed poorly on a field sobriety test and was arrested for suspected drunk driving.Tuesday, Sept. 24A Tollgate homeowner reported a woman entered the home while the only occupant was an elderly man and refused to leave. The woman was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.Deputies were dispatched to an auto theft in Silver Creek. The suspect from the Tollgate trespassing case was determined to be involved. She was charged.Monday, Sept. 23Deputies stopped a vehicle on I-80 for a traffic violation. The occupants admitted to having a small amount of narcotics. Deputies seized the drugs and arrested the individuals.
