Matt Boldy was a full participant in the morning skate for tonight’s preseason game against the Blackhawks at Xcel Energy Center. It was the winger’s first time on the ice with teammates since Sept. 22, when he suffered a lower body injury. “It’s nice to see him back,” head coach John Hynes said Tuesday. “He’s progressing really well, obviously, to be able to go out in the morning skate and do everything.” Boldy, 23, scored 29 goals among 63 points last season, giving him a combined 60 goals over the past two seasons. It’s possible, Hynes said, that he will play in the team’s last preseason game — Friday night at Chicago — as a tune-up for next week’s season opener. “There’s a chance, the way he’s progressing, and we’ll have two full practices after tonight,: Hynes said. “So, we’ll see how he responds to that and then make a decision as to whether he needs the game, or he doesn’t play the game and he’s ready for the regular season.” No guarantees The Wild made their biggest cuts of training camp over the past two days, cutting down from 50 to 30 players on Sunday and Monday. The NHL deadline to cut down to a 23-man, opening day roster, is Oct. 7. Camp now looks more like a regular-season practice day, but Hynes warned his players not to get too comfortable as it prepares for the Oct. 10 regular season opener. “Like I’ve told the team, this is not the final roster. It’s still competitive, we’re still going to push them this week,” the coach said. “I think when you cut down sometimes, there’s an excitement for the team, but we’re not in the regular season yet. So, we’ve got to make sure we stay focused and we push through this week with a training camp mindset. Because I think you don’t want to waste days.” Briefly Defenseman Jake Middleton did not participate in Tuesday’s morning skate. “He’s day-to-day,” Hynes said. “He’s got a bruise; nothing serious on that.” … Graeme Clark, who took a slapshot to his right leg in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Dallas, is out indefinitely with a lower body injury.
