COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Forestry Commission has issued a state forester’s burning ban for 20 counties.
It includes local counties like Lexington, Richland, Saluda, and more.
It prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, in unincorporated areas.
But it does not apply to fires used to prepare food or a portable outdoor fireplace.
Officials say the burning ban is intended to ease the strain on firefighting personnel and law enforcement as they take part in clean up from Helene.
The Forestry Commission says the ban will stay in effect until further notice.
