BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A hearing on multiple motions filed in the case of Karim Reyad, the one-armed motorist charged with murder in a deadly crash in southwest Bakersfield, was postponed Tuesday to November. After hearing from attorneys, Judge David Wolf set a new motions date on Nov. 12. Reyad, 19, is accused of speeding and driving while impaired in a crash last year that killed Gayla Sue Price, 66. In addition to second-degree murder, Reyad is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, reckless driving and driving the wrong way on a divided highway. He's being held without bail. On April 18, 2023, Price died after her Honda Civic was hit by a Dodge Challenger driven by Reyad near the intersection of Campus Park Drive and Evening Star Way. Reyad and his two passengers were injured. According to police reports, Reyad drove more than 100 mph and was impaired by marijuana. Reyad's attorneys have questioned the reliability of witness statements and data obtained from the heavily-damaged Dodge. They've also raised questions over whether Reyad was impaired, noting there is no standard legal measurement for impairment by marijuana.
