White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will give remarks to the press Tuesday afternoon, as the southeastern U.S. recovers in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. President Biden plans to visit North Carolina on Wednesday to view the damage firsthand. On Monday, Biden ripped former President Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, for criticizing his administration's response to the storm. The president will receive an update on response and recovery efforts later Tuesday afternoon. The briefing also comes as conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Lebanon rages following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah over the weekend — and after Israel seemingly brushed off cease-fire negotiations led by the U.S. and France. Biden held a call with Jewish leaders earlier Tuesday ahead of the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays. Jean-Pierre, who will be joined by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, is scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. EDT. Watch the live video above.
