FREETOWN, Mass. (WLNE) — A Providence man has been indicted after police said his motor vehicle crossed the center line and struck another head on in Assonet back in April. The crash left a 68-year-old man with life threatening injuries. According to police, he still faces a long road to recovery. 26-year-old Anthony Flores was arrested for an OUI causing serious bodily injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Officials said they received a call back on April 20 around 5:40 p.m. for a two-car collision near the Stop & Shop Distribution Center. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered two vehicles with heavy damage from a head-on impact. Flores, the operator of one of the vehicles, was trapped inside his vehicle and required extrication using the ‘jaws of life.’ Both drivers were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford by Freetown Fire-Rescue. Police allege that Flores’ vehicle crossed over the center line at a high rate of speed and struck the Plymouth Roadrunner head-on. “Every time we get behind the wheel, the decisions we make can have profound and sometimes devastating consequences. We urge everyone to drive responsibly to prevent tragedies like this from happening in our community,” said Police Chief Scott Rose in a statement. Categories: News
