PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — One Rhode Islander is trying to help her mother and stepfather through the devastation after Helene wrecked their home. Renee and Mike Marcou evacuated with their two cats and dog before Helene hit their home in Hudson, Florida. The couple moved to Florida from Warwick in 2022. Now, Renee’s daughter, Alyssa Sears, is doing what she can to support her mom from Rhode Island. “I was just very nervous because so many people have died from this storm,” said Sears. “So I was just hoping that they would at least be alive and be okay, my mom is all I have,” Sears said. Sears said her mom and stepfather went to a hotel to ride out the storm when their vehicle was flooded in the parking lot. The couple returned to their home to find it destroyed, and what wasn’t ruined was sopping wet. “It’s going need to be gutted there has to be new drywall, electrical, cabinets, because the water was up to the windows like her fridge was floating in her apartment like a boat,” Sears explained. Sears is trying to raise money with a GoFundMe page to help her family get back on their feet. “They’re going to have to move, so moving essentials, for their car, for food that has to get replaced because they don’t have electricity and their food was floating in the water with the fridge,” Sears continued. The Marcou’s were told that they won’t have power for weeks and spent Monday working to clear out their house. Categories: News
