Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images All sides are eager to get the all-clear and return to action Ausar Thompson remains out as the Detroit Pistons begin training camp, and while he remains as positive as ever, updates are sparse. Thompson is still working through an NBA program and protocol with the league and NBA Players Association to get fully cleared to return to full-contact and 5-on-5 work. The 2023 No. 5 overall pick had a promising rookie season cut short after being diagnosed with blood clot issues in March. “He’s going through a medical process with the league and the (NBA) Players Association right now, We’re supporting him as much as possible and just waiting for the resolution from the NBA and the PA. We’re excited and look forward to having Ausar back. This time I just can’t say any more to that as we’re just looking for a resolution to that process,” said Pistons president Trajan Langdon at Pistons Media Day. When Thompson spoke to the media, he was all smiles and fully willing to engage with questions about his growth last season and his expectations for this season, but he was clear that any final decisions about returning to play are out of his hands. “There is no timeline right now,” he said. In the meantime, Thompson is doing as much strength and conditioning work as possible, and working with shooting coach Fred Vinson to help improve his shot. “I’m going to work to get that jumper ... but at the same time, I know it’s not something that’s going to happen overnight. It’s going to take time,” Thompson said.
