FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (DC News Now) — A struggling Prince George’s County hospital is hoping to get a big financial boost from county and state leaders.   Maryland’s Gov. Wes Moore and county leaders toured the Fort Washington Medical Center earlier this month to see what can be done.  College Park seeking to expand bike lanes Eunmee Shim, president of Adventist Healthcare Fort Washington Medical Center, said she was grateful for any help she could get.   “We hope they will consider supporting us and we do have a request that went into the county government as part of their capital budget request for their next legislative year,” Shim said. The facility president told DC News Now there are not enough doctors, not enough adequate space for patients since the building is too small and there is not enough funding. Shim said the solution is to build a new hospital. “We believe building a new hospital for this community is crucial," Shim said. "It is very difficult to properly take care of the community, and I believe the community deserves to get the best healthcare they can get. Often we have to transfer patients to other facilities for additional services." Many in Prince George’s County celebrating African Heritage Month Shim said she is hoping to break ground shortly but is not sure when that will happen. “We do 24-7 emergency services for the community, and we are excited to have in patient care services including critical care. And we can perform a number of surgical services on site as well”. Jolene Ivey, the Prince George’s County Council Chairperson, said the problems are because the facility is "too small and underfunded." “We really need to do all we can do to help them get more funding wherever that will come from and help them expand," Ivey said.
