ST. TAMMANY (WGNO) — St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper has announced a Multi-Modal Transportation created to outline future infrastructure in the parish. The goal is to better connect communities in the parish by creating new roadways, widening existing roadways and increasing accessibility and convenience. Over the years, the parish has seen exponential growth. It's now the fourth largest and fastest-growing parish in Louisiana. Over the last 20 years, the population has grown by over 41%, and citizens are feeling the effects of the influx. "It's gone from being just a little sleepy town to being featured in Southern Living, and it's gotten a lot of good accolades and with that. I think the infrastructure, we need to expand that a little bit and address some issues that we see, whether it's parking or traffic. We need to address that with the growth," said Olive Patch owner Caroline d'Hemecourt. But others aren't convinced. "For so long we've seen here in St. Tammany Parish that there was not proper planning. There weren't plans for growth. You know, of course, you can't prepare for Hurricane Katrina and the growth we had overnight, but there's been continual growth after that. So, President Cooper, this administration really prioritizing examining where we're growing, how we're growing and the infrastructure that has to go with it," said St. Tammany Parish Director of Public Information Michael Vinsanau, Director of Public Information. Parish officials are asking residents to review the plan on the St. Tammany Parish Government website and email comments to [email protected].
