OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) - After Winnebago County Public Health unveiled new Public Health Vending Machines (PHVM) on Sept. 20, officials noticed a positive change in public health and safety. "Our Oshkosh one has definitely seen a lot more use, which is exciting," said Winnebago County Community Health Strategist Maddie Breager. "Over this past week since our launch, we've seen over 123 items dispensed from the vending machine." West De Pere High School students organize fundraiser for elementary teacher battling breast cancer Items available include nasal Narcan, Fentanyl test strips, DETERRA drug deactivation kits, gun locks, lock bags, feminine hygiene products, and basic needs kits. According to Breager, Lock Bags, Basic Needs Kits, and nasal Narcan are among the most used, and the PHVM is being restocked daily. She adds that the PHVM's are aimed at preventing death as increasing access to Narcan and Fentanyl Test Strips is one of the most effective tools available to combat the opioid epidemic. "I've gotten the hygiene kit, and I've gotten the fentanyl test strips because I help people out," said Joseph Potter. "I've had a few people actually almost OD by me, and I've been able to save their lives." Joseph Potter is an Oshkosh resident and former first responder who has used Winnebago County's new PHVM to keep himself and others healthy and safe, but he's not the only one. "I've actually noticed a lot of people carrying around the test strips and the Narcan from these machines, so I feel like it's going to make a huge difference on overdoses and stuff like that as well, and not just to help the community." Albrecht Administration Building at 112 Otter Avenue in Oshkosh and the Neenah Human Services Building at 211 N. Commercial Street in Neenah. For more information, visit the Winnebago County website.
