BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET)-- It looked and sounded like a concert, but it was an anti-bullying rally for middle schoolers. The group GMG alongside the Wesley Davis Foundation and Bakersfield Police Department brings all the fun to teach students how to stop bullying "Wesley Davis, he told us to make an anti-bullying song, something for the kids, so that we can teach them," said Lamont Simpkins, part of the group GMG. "I think more now, day and age, it's kind of cool being you." Students at Sequoia Jr. High School, Iliana Castillo and Yaretzi Gonzalez have both faced cyberbullying. CalFresh recognizes Bakersfield College’s Renegade Nexus pantry with Gold Certification "I try not to pay attention to it that much because at the end of the day they don't have a saying in my life," said Iliana Castillo "I don't really let comments get to me because I know, like, it's not true," Yaretzi Gonzalez, "So, they just want to see me down." Both found comfort in a special someone. "My mom, yeah, my mom," said Iliana Castillo. "I feel like my confidence comes from my mom." "I talked to my mom about it," Yaretzi Gonzalez said. But if it's not family, there's always a trusted adult who can help out. "I feel like they should definitely look into counseling at school," said Yaretzi Gonzalez. Recent bullying incidents throughout the city have left many families on high alert. "We've definitely seen an increase in requests for anti-bullying presentations on all age groups ranging from 4th to 12th grade," said Makayla Gonzalez with Bakersfield police.
