A Oak Lawn man was killed and another was critically wounded in a shooting early Sunday near Illinois State University in downstate Normal. About 3:45 a.m. Sunday, officers were breaking up a "large party" at a Circle K gas station in the 300 block of Main Street when they heard gunshots, the Normal Police Department said. Officers then responded to the 300 block of North University where they found gunshot victims Randall E. Glass, 18, of Oak Lawn and another 18-year-old man, police said. Glass was taken to a hospital, where he died of multiple gunshot wounds, officials said. His death was ruled a homicide. The other man was also hospitalized in critical condition. The victims are not associated with the university, police said. Hundreds of people were gathered at the "pop-up party" at the gas station in celebration of ISU's homecoming. The party — which was not sanctioned by the university — was mainly made up of people from outside town and the university community, Normal Mayor Chris Koos said in statement. "These aren’t typical parties," Koos said. "This event was promoted by people outside our community and designed to attract people from miles away who don’t feel personal responsibility for their actions. This is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate them in Normal. "We respect the right to gather and celebrate. The Town of Normal and Illinois State University have a strong history of working together to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all. We will not allow this to diminish what we’ve worked so hard to accomplish."Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Normal Police Department, submit tips anonymously by texting "NORMALPD" to 847411 or through the Normal PD app.
