National City Police arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 30-year-old pedestrian in National City early Saturday morning, officials said. The crash was reported around 2:30 a.m. after a National City man walking across Sweetwater Road just east of Interstate 805 was struck by a dark-colored SUV, Sgt. Mark Segal said in a news release Monday. Investigators said the driver of the SUV stopped, pulled the victim to the side of the road and then drove away from the scene. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name was not released, pending notification from his family. The alleged driver was arrested about eight hours later on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
