SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A motorcyclist is dead and another was injured in a crash in Oceanside Saturday afternoon. The Oceanside Police Department responded to calls for a major accident involving multiple vehicles at 1:53 p.m. Saturday on Coast Highway just before West Street in Oceanside. SDFD task force members injured in crash on way to NC for Hurricane Helene relief efforts According to police, a group of five or six sport motorcycles were heading north when one of the motorcyclists did not see the other slowing down for a car making a left turn and rear-ended the motorcycle, sending both riders into opposing lanes of traffic. One of the riders was run over by a Toyota Yaris heading south on Coast Highway, while a second rider continued past the car and ran into the side of a fourth vehicle. Motorcyclist dies in Chula Vista crash The police department reports one rider was taken to the hospital with major head and chest trauma and was pronounced dead by medical staff. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification. The second rider was treated at the scene for injuries. The two drivers in the vehicles were not injured. The Oceanside Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash and is asking anyone with more information to contact Officer Jose Gomez at 760-435-4952.
