SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Thousands of people are still dealing with Hurricane Helene's impacts on the area. No power, wasted food, and sweltering heat are just some of the frustrations News 3 has heard from viewers. One Savannah couple is facing those problems and more, with a tree crashing into their home, temporarily displacing them. Joshua Davis and his husband were among those who lost power Thursday night and into Friday morning when the storm hit the area. They live off Victory Drive. Their situation is more extreme than some others with a tree crashing into their home overnight Thursday during the storm. They are staying with family in Hilton Head but returned to the home Monday to collect some belongings. "We didn't imagine the power would be out for more than 24 hours or even 48 hours," said Davis, "We took a couple changes of clothes, deodorant, and our toothbrushes, and we climbed out the bathroom window."  The struggles they are experiencing as a result of Helene are ones other people News 3 spoke to are dealing with, such as wasted food. "We just bought our groceries for the month," said Davis, "We go to a wholesale company and we buy for the month to save a little bit extra, so we've put most of our food budget into the fridge just before the storm." Next door to the Davis' lives Perry Williams. The same tree fell on his house, and he has been without power for almost four days. "I lost about $200 worth of food," said Williams. Williams says he is living off the power from a generator, and it is getting more costly by the day. "The generator is probably around $30-$40 a day," said Williams, "It's been dramatic. You can't see, you can't do anything. It's very hot. It's definitely been a rough time." Georgia Power says it is working to restore service to the entire area by Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 10:00 p.m. at the latest. They say to report any power emergencies immediately here or by calling their emergency hotline: 1 (888) 891-0938.
