The Park City Police Department in late September reported numerous traffic-related cases, including what was described as a near collision between a driver and someone riding a bicycle.The police regularly conduct traffic patrols, netting numerous drivers each week for a variety of suspected offenses like speeding and turning violations. Speeding and other moving violations have long been one of the chief law enforcement-related complaints of Parkites.The case involving a close call between a motorist and a bicyclist was reported on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 12:50 p.m. A driver reportedly nearly hit a bicyclist while the rider was in a crosswalk at the intersection of Kearns Boulevard and Bonanza Drive. The person told the police the driver was in a dark-colored SUV. The incident occurred approximately 20 minutes before the police were contacted.The Kearns Boulevard-Bonanza Drive intersection is one of the busiest in Park City.The next day, Friday, Sept. 27, at 7:49 p.m., someone on Queen Esther Drive contacted the Police Department about several people driving sports cars “that are going up and down the road at extreme speeds.” Public police logs did not provide details about the speeds.  On Sept. 26 at 9:29 a.m., meanwhile, “sport vehicles” were reported to be speeding on Queen Esther Drive. They were headed toward Deer Valley Drive, the police were told.The police also made a series of speeding-related traffic stops. They included a driver reported to be traveling at 41 mph in a location on Meadows Drive where the posted speed limit is 25 mph on Sept. 24 and a case the next day at 66 mph in a location on Marsac Avenue where the posted speed limit is 40 mph.There was also an unusual case in Old Town, reported at 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 26. The police were told a “large tractor” repeatedly drove northbound and southbound on Woodside Avenue at up to 40 mph.
