In Orleans, a new child care center in Central City will be constructed on Freret Street totaling nearly $5 million. The property is in walkable distance to Al Davis Park and will be completed by CDW Services LLC. A vacant firehouse at 2312 Louisiana Ave. will be converted into a mixed use commercial/residential development. The property has been vacant for at least 20 years, and the area has seen consistent development into a hub for multifamily property. Totaling nearly $4 million, CDW Services LLC is also performing this rehabilitation. A warehouse located at 14601 Old Gentilly Road where Folger’s, a coffee manufacturing company is located, will see nearly $3 million in updates. It consists of interior support columns, foundations, HVAC equipment, and new pile supported foundation for future process equipment, along with new metal stud walls. With some property owners still fighting to receive Hurricane Ida claims to make repairs, St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church joins that list with permits issued for nearly $2 million to replace the clay roof tile and make interior repairs caused by the storm. U.S. Roofing Systems is performing the work. 2400 Napoleon Ave., which was previously a church, sees continued renovation into an event venue with another $1.5 million in permits issued.
