INDIANAPOLIS -- Thousands across Indianapolis are still without power Monday more than 72 hours after remnants of Hurricane Helene literally blew through the Circle City. Neighbors in Forest Manor on the northeast side of town said the storm sounded like an explosion and a train wreck as a tree toppled onto their power lines. ”I really thought we were close to the ocean, the trees are blowing so hard," said Tieara Anderson. "I'm in a brick house and even though it's a brick house it sounded like the roof was going to come off the top." Anderson and her neighbors lost power around 6 Friday night and it hasn't come back on since. A tree in James Vincent's backyard lost a huge branch. Vincent spent six hours Saturday getting it off the power lines. ”I know they wasn't going to do anything unless they get the tree off the wire," Vincent said. But, three full days later, and no AES truck has come down their alley. Anderson said she's called several times but can't get a firm answer on when a crew could come by. ”They know me by name," Anderson said. "As soon as I ring the phone, they know me by name." Since Friday, Anderson and her fellow neighbors have had to get around their homes using flashlights or candles and charge their electronics in their cars. Ceira Roberts called us about their problem over the weekend. She said her son has struggled without being able to cool down indoors. ”It's heartbreaking whenever he wakes up multiple times in the middle of the night because he's so hot," Roberts said. The worst of the outage came this morning when their food started to spoil in their now-warm refrigerators. ”We dumped ours this morning," Anderson said. "Deep freezer and refrigerator, we didn't have no choice, it all started going bad." As of 5 p.m. Monday, more than 3,300 customers were still without power. That means AES restored power to almost 2,000 on Monday. Originally, 100,000 people were without power in Indy after the Friday storms. An AES spokesperson sent out a video update Monday morning but did not return our request for an interview.  The spokesperson said they’re hoping to have all power restored Tuesday night. Utility crews from Massachusetts are coming to town Monday night to help out.
