NEW CASTLE, Ind. -- According to a recent poll conducted by the GBAO on behalf of the Democratic Governors Association, Jennifer McCormick, the Democratic candidate for Indiana governor, is shown to be "well within striking distance" before November's general election. McCormick is facing U.S. Senator Mike Braun, R-Ind. in November's gubernatorial race. Previous polls, including a recent one from Emerson College Polling, showed Braun leading McCormick by more than 10 points earlier this month. “Voters recognize that Jennifer McCormick represents the common sense and balanced leadership that Hoosiers want,” Margie Omero, a principal at GBAO, said in a news release. “That’s why Jennifer is gaining support from Independent and moderate Republican voters across the state.” Emerson College Poll: Braun leads in Indiana governor’s race The GBAO poll, released on Monday, showed McCormick three points behind Braun (44% Braun to 41% McCormick) while Libertarian candidate Donald Rainwater received 8%. A news release from McCormick's campaign said that she also holds a double-digit lead for Independents (42% McCormick to 32% Braun) and is winning nearly one in five moderate Republicans. “Jennifer’s campaign has always been about connecting with Hoosiers on the issues that matter most to them: restoring abortion freedoms, education, and economic opportunity,” Kelly Wittman, McCormick's campaign manager, said in the release. “The latest polling and race ratings show Jennifer’s message of balance is getting through, and the momentum is firmly on our side.” According to the Indiana Secretary of State’s office, Hoosiers are able to register to vote for the 2024 General Election through Oct. 7.
