BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- CalFresh Healthy living is recognizing Bakersfield College's Renegade Nexus Pantry for their work in keeping students and the community fed. The pantry operates on a point system, which is open to students, faculty and staff members. The B.C. community has access to snacks, hygiene products, meals and drinks that can help students get through their day. Riddhi Patel preliminary hearing enters 3rd day Each item is marked between one to three points and points are replenished on a weekly basis. Student and campus employees need a campus ID card to access the pantry, according to CAPK's outreach specialist Janell Gore. CalFresh, a nutrition education program, has awarded the Renegade Pantry with a Gold Certification. The certification is awarded to pantries that participate in the Nutrition Pantry Program. The certification confirms the Renegade pantry is addressing policy, environment systems approaches, such as combating Kern's food insecurity issue, positive client feed back and nutrition education, Gore said. Members of the community also have access to the pantry with a monthly food distribution event. CAPK food bank also hosts distribution events every third Friday of the month.
