PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - As fall continues, more and more colors are showing in the trees, but where can you get the best view of fall foliage? When will fall foliage peak in western Massachusetts According to USA Today, it's that time of year when Mother Nature is gearing up for her annual spectacle of fall color, and leaf peepers are searching for the best viewing spot. Leaf peeping, according to Wikipedia, is a term in the United States and Canada for the activity in which people travel to view and photograph the fall foliage in areas where leaves change colors. USA Today has created a list of the top 10 best places to see fall colors in the United States, and a county in Massachusetts has made the list. The Berkshires The Berkshires has made the ninth spot on USA Today's list, as they celebrate the change with a fall foliage parade that has been running for almost seven decades. The Berkshires is a rural region in western Massachusetts that's a popular vacation destination. It's known for its outdoor activities, fall foliage viewing, a farm-to-table food destination, and arts institutions. Routes to view the best foliage According to Visit The Berkshires, several routes are especially dramatic and well worth the trip, such as starting on the Mohawk Trail along Route 2 near Clarksburg, which includes the famous Hairpin Turn and a magnificent view of vibrant foliage.  You can also drive through Williamstown and turn on Route 7 or head south on Route 8 from North Adams to Mount Greylock at 3,491 feet, the highest peak in Massachusetts. There are several more fall foliage routes that visitors can choose from, which is why the Berkshires have claimed a spot on USA Today's list.
