SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – After a long weekend of restoration from the destructive storm, many streets are dark without power. Thousands of people are still without power as of Monday morning after Hurricane Helene. More than 375,000 Georgia Power customers statewide are in the dark. Restoration efforts have been underway throughout the weekend, but numbers remain high of homes without power. More than 60,000 Georgia Power customers in Chatham County don't have electricity. At 7 a.m., Savannah Mayor Van Johnson posted online that Greater Savannah specifically has 63,414 customer outages. The amount of these outages equates to 1,142 events that will need attending. The top five areas with the most outages are out of the following substations: 52nd Street Skidway island Ferguson Ave Bolton Street Wilmington Island More crews arrived overnight Sunday and more are coming throughout the day Monday. While numbers are improving, we could still be days away from full restoration. Georgia EMC expects more days of outages Georgia Power officials say Helene was the most destructive hurricane in the company's history. More than 5,000 poles need repaired, along with 500 transformers. On top of that, 1,500 trees need removed to restore power statewide. Georgia Power estimates restoration times for most of the Coastal Empire to be late tomorrow night, specifically Tuesday at 10 p.m. "You want to avoid any downed power lines you want to make sure you don't remove any tree limbs or avoid any standing water that could possibly be energized that don't look like it," said Alicia Brown, a spokesperson for Georgia Power. Here's a closer look at the outage numbers by Monday around Georgia: Among with Chatham County's 62,000 without power, more than 13,000 people don't have power in Effingham County. Nine thousand people in Bulloch County are in the dark, along with thousands in Liberty and Bryan counties. As for South Carolina, thousands still don't have power, including 2,900 Dominion customers in Beaufort County. More than 2,500 are without power in Hampton County, and about 1,600 in Jasper County.
