Acting Petersburg Schools superintendent Yolonda Brown faces school board in interview for position
Sep 30, 2024
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Acting superintendent Yolonda Brown is set to be interviewed for the second time by the Petersburg School Board Monday evening as she seeks to secure the permanent position.
Brown’s latest interview on Monday, Sept. 30 follows a previous session held last week where she faced a seven-member volunteer panel. During that meeting, she was questioned on critical issues affecting the school system, including chronic absenteeism, communication gaps between schools and parents and teacher preparedness.
Brown emphasized the necessity for change, urging stakeholders to abandon outdated beliefs about the school system in favor of innovative solutions.
Since taking on the role of acting superintendent, Brown has been addressing the challenges that have emerged following the resignation of superintendent Tamara Sterling in April.
Chris Farley, the former Chief of Staff, briefly served as interim superintendent before resigning in June for a position in Caroline County. Brown has been in her acting role since then, with her current term set to conclude on October 31.
The meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Petersburg School Administration Offices, is open to the public and will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
