The remnants of Helene continue to linger in the region. We keep rather cloudy skies along with patchy drizzle and the chance for a few light showers around the area through the day. High temperatures will climb to the mid 70s Monday afternoon. It's the last day of September! We will spend most of this week with temperatures above average. However, this is a time of year that our average highs are falling very quickly. We lose another few degrees in a week's time. Plus, by the end of October, our average will be more than 10° cooler from where we are now. We're tracking a cold front to bring us changes from the pattern we've been in the last several days. The front will slide through the region today but not pass over the state until Tuesday. This front will push the remnants of Helene to the east. Behind it, we get into more sunshine. These changes do come with some cooler temperatures that will be most impactful in the overnight/early mornings. With low temperatures that have been in the 60s, these have been well above average for the time of year. Our normal low temperature for late September is 52°. This cooler shot of air we have coming will send our low temperatures closer to seasonal levels with upper 40s and low 50s by the middle of the week. Our coolest afternoon this week comes Wednesday but we still get into the low 70s. We get another warmup to mid and upper 70s late this week into the weekend.
