That offense is tough to defend. … Lake Catholic moves back up to the No. 2 slot where it started the season. The Cougars’ performance, coupled with VASJ’s loss to Erie McDowell, pushes Lake up a slot. … VASJ is at No. 3 this week heading into a bye week. … A pretty large shift has occured with Chardon losing back-to-back games. That has allowed Kirtland, Perry and Gilmour to all move up a slot. Losing quarterback Jake LaVerde to a broken wrist certainly stings the Hornets, but does anyone think Kirtland still won’t run the table in the regular season? … Kenston makes a big jump from the watch list to the No. 7 slot after shutting down Chardon in a 20-3 win. The Bombers lost to VASJ and Lake Catholic, but have otherwise been very solid. … Chardon slides to No. 8 and should be pretty motivated this week against South and beyond. … Benedictine and Hawken take the No. 9 and No. 10 slots. Geneva is the hard-luck team to drop out after Kenston jumped back into the Crop. Did the Eagles deserve to drop? No. Riverside has a Crop claim, too, with their losses to 4-2 Green, 5-1 Cathedral Prep and 5-1 Austintown-Fitch. … There’s a long way to go still.
