Tractortrailer crash, fuel spill on I495 causes major delays in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Montgomery County firefighters and state troopers blocked off several lanes on Interstate 495 after a tractor-trailer crashed and fuel spilled on Monday morning.
Maryland State Police told DC News Now that shortly after 6 a.m. troopers were called to I-495 and Old Georgetown Road for a jackknifed tractor-trailer.

State police said their preliminary investigation indicates that a tractor-trailer, for unknown reasons, swerved off the road and hit a guardrail.
The impact of the crash caused fuel to spill across the highway.
There were no reported injuries.
As of 7:32 a.m., several lanes on I-495 were closed and traffic was backed up for several miles.
State police said a hazmat crew is currently on the scene and is assisting with the fuel spill.
Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes until the crash is cleared.
