AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Temperatures continue to trend above average as rain largely stays out of the forecast. Afternoon highs will return to the mid-90s today under a clear, blue sky. Dew points will stay in the upper 50s to low 60s making for a dry, "less sticky" feel to the air. Relatively low humidity through the week Light winds, sunshine and building high pressure above will make for conducive conditions for ozone formation. An Air Quality Alert is in effect for the Austin-metro area - those with heart/lung/respiratory issues are encouraged to spend more time inside today. Rain chances are very minimal in the near future. An isolated shower can't be ruled out on Friday, but optimism is low. We'll continue to monitor the latest model trends. Tracking the Tropics A broad area of low pressure in the Caribbean has eyes on the Gulf of Mexico this week. Although it's still too early to nail down details, it is likely we will have tropical formation in the southern Gulf by mid- to late week. Keep checking in here for further updates.
