BEECH GROVE, Ind. — A shooting in Beech Grove left an 18-year-old woman in critical condition Sunday night. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 5900 block of Riva Ridge Drive — which is located near Arlington Avenue and Interstate 465 — around 9:05 p.m. on a report of a person shot. When police arrived at the scene, they located a victim with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Photos from the Riva Ridge Drive scene. IMPD initially reported that the victim was in critical condition. The agency also indicated that its officers were investigating the shooting and would provide an update. IMPD, however, did not make any additional information on the shooting available because the Beech Grove Police Department ultimately ended up leading the investigation. BGPD Chief Michael Maurice reported that the victim found on Riva Ridge Drive was actually involved in a shooting that is believed to have unfolded in the 5400 block of Sagebrush Avenue. Per BGPD, the victim left Sagebrush Avenue and went to Riva Ridge Drive before police found her. Once law enforcement located the victim, she was transported to Eskenazi Hospital. BGPD did not provide any updates on the woman's condition beyond what IMPD initially reported. A special weapons and tactics (SWAT) unit was called to the 5400 block of Sagebrush Avenue during BGPD's investigation. Maurice indicated SWAT was dispatched to the area to make sure there were no suspects hiding in some apartments in the area. Photo from the Sagebrush Avenue scene. According to BGPD, no suspects have been detained in relation to the shooting. BGPD's detectives are also unsure what the motive for the shooting might have been. Maurice reported that his department is still actively investigating the shooting. Police are encouraging those with information on the shooting to contact BGPD at (317) 782-4934 or [email protected]. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
