LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico State University football coach is on leave after a string of controversial posts on social media from over 10 years ago were found. The night before the Rio Grande Rivalry, Las Cruces Sun-News reported Aggies' Offensive Coordinator Tyler Wright had posted a series of controversial tweets ranging from 2011 to 2014. During that time, Wright was a wide receiver at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. Many of the posts in question come from 2012 and appear to make jokes about Joseph Kony, a Ugandan warlord who went viral at the time. One of the posts also includes a racial slur when Wright supposedly was going on vacation to Jamaica. Wright was originally hired in 2021 and promoted to offensive coordinator this last season. NMSU Athletic Director Mario Mochuh told our sister station in El Paso that Wright is not with the team while the university investigates the posts. It's unknown how long the university's investigation will last or if/when Wright will be back on the sidelines.
