NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- Nine people were forced from their home on Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out in New Bedford. The city's fire department said in a social media post that crews responding to Pleasant Street around 2:45 p.m. saw fire spreading from second floor windows. The fire was contained to the second floor, according to the department. An elderly person living in the home was brought to St. Luke's Hospital for a not life-threatening medical condition. The department said four children were among those displaced and multiple cats and dogs were rescued. An investigation into what caused the fire is underway.
