As of Sunday, September 29, the Royals are now set to play the Baltimore Orioles in a three-game Wild Card series in Baltimore. The Royals clinched a Wild Card spot on Friday night after the Minnesota Twins lost their sixth-consecutive game, guaranteeing that Kansas City would play a best-of-three series against either the Baltimore Orioles or the Houston Astros in an effort to reach the American League Division Series. The Royals entered Sunday as the sixth seed, holding the tiebreaker over the Detroit Tigers, and jumped them with a win against the Atlanta Braves and a Tigers loss against the Chicago White Sox. With Kansas City's win and Detroit's loss, the Royals hopped up to become the fifth seed and will travel to Baltimore, with the winner of that potential series facing the New York Yankees in the ALDS.
