The sun has peeked out at time this Sunday afternoon, but mostly cloudy skies have largely dominated the western half of the Carolinas as we close out the weekend. Patchy fog and a few showers will develop overnight, but most will remain dry. The clouds and isolated rain chances stick around as we kick off the workweek on Monday; some sunshine may be able to break out later in the day as high pressure kicks moisture out to the northeast. Tuesday will be a transitionary day between Monday and the rest of the week as a dry cold front pushes toward the Carolinas. Highs hang near 80° in the Piedmont and Foothills through the first two days of the workweek. The aforementioned front arrives overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, allowing much drier air to filter into our area. Temperatures won’t budge much, but dew points and rain chances will take a hit through the back half of the workweek. Expect mostly sunny skies and highs near 80° in the Metro from Wednesday into next weekend. A stray shower or two can’t be ruled out later in the week, but most communities will get off scot-free. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring another area in the western Caribbean for tropical development. The budding area of low pressure has a 50% chance of becoming a named storm over the next seven days. It’s still way too early to forecast long-term track and intensity, but this will be a system to watch over the next 7-10 days. Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a few showers. Patchy fog late. Low: 67°. Wind: Light. Monday: More clouds than sun. Stray shower? High: 81°. Wind: SW 5-10. Monday Night: Variable clouds. Low: 67°. Wind: Light. Tuesday: Mostly cloudy early with some more sun later in the day. High: 79°. Wind: NW 5-10.
