A scam relatively new to North Dakota is making the rounds in Fargo and Cass County and may be spreading west across the state. The Fargo Police Department has alerted residents through its Facebook page about a "brushing" scam that has been reported in that area. 2: Mercer woman killed, man arrested in Wilton crash. A woman has been killed, and a man has been arrested after a crash on the afternoon of Friday, September 20. 3: Two charged after inmate found with illegal goods at state penitentiary. Investigators say the event took place at the North Dakota State Penitentiary in May of last year.Corrections officers searched the cell of Paul Cavanaugh and say they found a cell phone, a screwdriver, and chewing tobacco. They believe the screwdriver was to be used to remove light fixtures in the prison so illegal goods could be hidden. 4: One person dies after SUV rear-ends pickup truck. A 41-year-old man was driving a GMC Sierra south on Highway 281 around dawn. But as he slowed his pickup to make a left turn on State Line Road, a Subaru Ascent approached, driving south. That SUV was driven by an elderly Ellendale man, and he had a female passenger in the car. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the SUV struck the pick-up, causing both vehicles to veer off the road. 5: Burleigh sobriety checkpoint results in multiple arrests. On Friday, September 20th, the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) and the Burleigh County Sheriff's Office conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint on ND 1804, between Yeagan Road and Burleigh Avenue. One driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. ollowing the checkpoint, NDHP troopers also conducted a saturation patrol in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
