Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) said he thinks Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) needs to “harp on the record” of the Biden administration during the vice presidential debate. Norman joined NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” on Sunday morning to offer Vance a word of advice before Tuesday’s debate against Democratic nominee Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), who is Vice President Harris's running mate. “What I hope JD Vance will do is start off with the same question I just said, ‘Americans … do you feel like you’re better off under the Harris-Biden administration?’ The answer will be pretty clear,” Norman said. He continued, saying he hopes Vance, former President Trump's running mate, will "harp on the record, leading off with immigration," crime and interest rates. Immigration and the economy are two of the largest issues for Republicans on the campaign trail. Harris recently visited the U.S.-Mexico border, where she walked back some of her previous stances on immigration and called for stricter border security. With under 40 days until the election, the debate between Vance and Walz is critical. It’s seen as one of the last efforts for Harris and former President Trump to amplify their messages to the country and appeal to voters who may still be on the fence. Gov. Ned Lamont (D-Conn.) also joined the show, saying he hopes Walz will be able to put the "human face" on the Harris campaign's policies. Both candidates will likely seek to target the opposing campaign, while highlighting what they plan to do in office. However, Norman said he hopes Vance will focus on the past four years with the Biden administration in power. Vance should lead with “the fact that it’s been a train wreck since they took office and nothing’s going to change that until the change in the executive branch,” Norman said.
