(Kyle Franko/ Trentonian Photo)Expand FAlRLESS HILLS, Pa. — Although the Pennsbury football team’s vaunted Ground and Pound offense had only looked like its normal self on occasion this year, it had done enough to allow the Falcons to win three of their first five games. On Saturday afternoon the offense was unable to do its part and despite a tremendous defensive effort the result was a 12-7 loss to undefeated Central Bucks South in a match-up of two Suburban One League National Division powers. The numbers tell the story of Pennsbury’s offensive futility against C.B. South’s large and physically defense. Pennsbury was able to complete just two passes for 21 yards and its running game was held to well under 100. With the exception of one mini drive in the second quarter, at no point were the Falcons able to move the ball into scoring position. The fact the game was this close was because of Pennsbury’s defense, which actually accounted for the  team’s lone touchdown when Antonio Pehlam returned a fumble 100 yards at the end of the third quarter. On this play, which started at the Pennsbury 1 yard line, a C.B. South receiver caught a pass and initially appeared to score a touchdown that would have put the Titans ahead by three TDs late in the third quarter. Instead, when the ball was jarred loose, Pehlam grabbed it out of midair and raced the 100 yards to keep the Falcons very much alive on the scoreboard with the score now 12-7. Pennsbury now had the momentum, but it just wasn’t meant to be as it had had just one first down in the fourth quarter and South was able to kill the clock with a 14-play drive before going into victory formation and taking a knee. Adding to Pennsbury’s frustration was the fact C.B. South’s first touchdown was basically a gift. This came early in the first quarter when a snap sailed over the punter’s head and the Titans took over at the Pennsbury 20. Five plays later South scored on a 1-yard plunge by Gavin Graham. South’s second touchdown came off the opening drive of the second half when it went 65 yards on seven plays and reached the end zone on a 24-yard sweep by Braylen Cape. It was the only time a Pennsbury defense led  by active linebacker Walker Murray broke down all day. While Murray was in on a host of tackles, the entire Pennsbury defense was in fine form. C.B South quarterback Owen Pinkerton did run for 131 yards, but he needed 25 carries to get them. Pinkerton completed just six passes for 72 yards. Pennsbury was also able to often have good field position thanks to some booming ponts by Chris Karamis. “They were big and active up front,” said Pennsbury coach Galen Snyder of C.B. South’s’s lines.”Our defense played very well, but what are you going to do. All we can do now is regroup and get ready for C.B. West (at home on Friday night).” C.B. South was last year’s District 1 Class 6A champion and is very highly ranked. While it says a lot about Pennsbury that this game was very close, the Falcons’s storied program has never been about moral victories and as such this was a disappointing loss.
