INDIANAPOLIS — A weather system capable of producing landspouts and gusty winds blew through central Indiana on Saturday. A series of special weather statements from the National Weather Service indicated Clinton, Howard, Hendricks, Parke, Boone, Hamilton, Fountain, Tippecanoe, Montgomery, Tipton, Vermillion and Putnam Counties were impacted by the system. The NWS reported that the "gusty showers capable of producing a landspout" were spotted nine miles east of Rockville, which is about 18 miles southwest of Crawfordsville, around 4:12 p.m. The system was reportedly moved southwest at 40 mph. RELATED: What’s the difference between a landspout and a tornado? In its special weather statement, the NWS indicated the system could generate wind gusts of up to 50 mph. The agency reported that the system could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Saturday's system marks the second consecutive day of adverse weather in central Indiana. On Friday, the remnants of Hurricane Helene pushed through the area, knocking out power and damaging homes and trees. Before Saturday's system hit the area, both AES Indiana and Duke Energy had reported that they had resolved thousands of customers' power outages that were caused by Friday's storms.
