NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit headquartered in North Charleston, is deploying its Disaster Assistance Response Team to Western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The storm, which caused widespread devastation across the Southeast, claimed dozens of lives and caused an estimated $35 billion in damage. Nearly three million people are without power, and drinking water shortages are critical, particularly in North Carolina, where record-breaking flooding occurred. Water Mission's team is heading to Boone with 30 generators, supplies, and water treatment systems to provide safe drinking water to the hardest-hit areas. “Water Mission has responded to more than 60 disasters around the world, including select instances within the U.S.,” said CEO and President George C. Greene IV, PE. “Our Disaster Assistance Response Team is well versed in quickly mobilizing and collaborating with partners on the ground to provide emergency assistance as quickly as possible where it is needed most. The historic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene has resulted in immeasurable suffering and loss for so many Americans." With more than 20 years of experience, Water Mission operates across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, providing immediate and long-term safe water solutions.
