ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Graybill Medical Group has terminated its agreement with Palomar Health Medical Group and will go independent beginning November 10. The decision was prompted by a data security incident that affected PHMG’s system in May. Russell Riehl, PHMG’s interim CEO, confirmed that they received notice from Graybill in August. Riehl said roughly 40,000 patients will have to decide if they want to stick with their doctors and follow them to a new office, or find a new provider to replace them within PHMG. Man found dead behind Food 4 Less in Mission Valley East “I hope I can still keep my same doctors because I’ve had them all for a long time,” said Tim Willis, a patient. He said so far, he hasn’t heard much about what’s next since Graybill’s decision to split from PHMG. Riehl said they are still in the process of negotiating with physicians to determine who wants to remain. Once they have more information, they plan to update patients. Dr. Alejandro Paz, the president of Graybill, said the decision to terminate the company’s agreement with PHMG was difficult. “But on the other hand, I have to keep considering the importance of providing good care for our patients,” he stated.  Paz said there are still issues from the data security incident, including patients having trouble getting through to make appointments.  Riehl with PHMG said they rebuilt the infrastructure to ensure their data stays safe, but added that “there’s little glitches here and there that we’re still resolving on a daily basis as they come up.” Meanwhile, an investigation is ongoing into whether any patient information was compromised, but PHMG has not been able to validate anything yet. Man arrested in attempted kidnapping near Coronado Public Library According to Dr. Paz, Graybill staff is close to identifying new leases and making agreements as they get ready to vacate the 7 existing offices affected by the separation.  One thing both sides can agree on is making sure patients are prioritized through the transition.  “I don’t want any of the patients in the community to worry about lapses in care or lapses in access,” stated Riehl.  “It would be great to have our rhythm back nd or harmony back and to just get back to our roots,” according to Dr. Paz.  Paz added that despite the split, Graybill still plans to refer patients to PHMG. He also said that PHMG is threatening legal action over the contract termination.
