HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — A widespread outage of Spectrum internet and cable services is affecting tens of thousands of customers in several states impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Helene, including parts of the Hampton Roads and Western Tidewater regions.
Saturday morning, the Suffolk Police Department stated that the outage was affecting non-emergency phone lines in a post on X. The department advises residents to call 757-925-1446 for any non-emergency matter.
According to the town of Smithfield, damage caused by Helene's remnants have caused a widespread outage, as damage to a major hub in South Carolina and to one of their major fiber optic lines has been causing service issues across the southeastern U.S.
The town said it was not aware of the anticipated restoration and said it would share more information as they receive it.
As of late Friday evening, DownDetector.com was still indicating an active outage throughout Hampton Roads, as well as Isle of Wight County, Southampton County and Suffolk.
A number of people have taken to social media to note the outage.
