CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Clovis East High School students say they need convertibles and their drivers for their homecoming ceremony - in order to continue their traditions, they decided to call on the community for support. On Tuesday, Clovis East announced on social media that the convertibles that were originally meant to be used in the pre-game parade were no longer available. Clovis East Associates Student Body Representatives Makai Labadie and Briley Laret say without the convertibles Homecoming would still happen, but it would lose a once-in-a-lifetime mystique for the students meant to be in the parade. "[Riding in the convertibles] just adds on to the experience of being nominated by your peers for such a quite surreal thing," Labadie said. According to Briley, five convertibles are needed to carry the school's "royalty," including: The Grand Marshall Freshman Homecoming Prince and Princess Sophomore Homecoming Prince and Princess Junior Homecoming Prince and Princess Senior Homecoming King and Queen Nominees Briley says they understand they are asking for a big favor from convertible owners but want those owners to know their cars will be in good hands. "We take special care of these cars because we know that they are super valuable to these community members," Briley said. "We laid blankets out on the car so that people aren't getting like sequins and sparkles and like people stepping on the seats in the paint." Briley says drivers can also drive their own car in the parade and students say they are even willing to make drivers gift baskets to thank them. Anyone in the community with a convertible willing to donate their car or their time is asked to reach out to Clovis East High School on social media.
