Forest Lake 27, Stillwater 21, OT: Forest Lake (3-2) reopened the Metro East championship discussion with an upset of the Ponies (3-2) as Connor Johnson ran in his second touchdown of the night in overtime to end the game after the Rangers stopped the Ponies on their offensive possession in the extra session. Forest Lake led 21-7 at half, but Stillwater responded, tying the game on a 41-yard pass from Nick Kinsey to Owen Egge in the fourth quarter. Kinsey threw for 233 yards and two scores. But Forest Lake won the battle in the trenches, with Mack Jurkovich rushing for 178 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown run. Simley 17, South St. Paul 16: Trailing 17-3 in the final frame, South St. Paul (2-3) nearly completed a stirring comeback Friday. Sam Ritter hit Ben Thrun for a 30-yard touchdown. Then, a few minutes later, Enrique Reyes recovered a fumble for a touchdown to trim Simley’s advantage to 17-16 with four minutes to play. The Packers went for two, but the Spartans (2-3) snuffed out the try and hung on for the win. Christian Urbina threw two touchdown passes for Simley. Tartan 28, Mahtomedi 24: Charles Graske ran for a touchdown and threw for two, with the final scoring pass a 37-yard strike to Jerror Borsay in the fourth quarter to give the Titans (2-3) the victory. Borsay had three scores — two receiving and one rushing. Connor Finn threw for 262 yards and three scores, while adding 93 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Zephyrs (1-4), who were 0 for 4 on converting extra point or 2-point conversions after their touchdowns. Central 55, Harding/Humboldt 30: Lavontae Cox ran for four touchdowns and Allan Lankfard threw for a pair as Central (2-3) put up 42 first-half points. Ai’Jhon Douglas had two rushing scores for Harding/Humboldt (0-5). Mounds View 50, Woodbury 7: A week after he was knocked out of a loss to Stillwater, quarterback Jacob Sampson returned to action to throw for four touchdowns for the Mustangs (3-2). Godson Rufus-Okomhanru added two explosive touchdowns: a 57-yard run, and a 99-yard kickoff return.
