DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) - While many eyes were on the field for the Battle of the Bridge on Friday night, students and faculty were also focused on raising money for a beloved West De Pere teacher. Krista LaPierre, a fourth-grade teacher at Westwood Elementary, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer over the summer. Edison Middle School students work to build greenhouse as outdoor classroom As a result, West De Pere High School's DECA chapter is trying to do its best to help her with medical costs and treatments, as she's out of the classroom for the school year. "It's really hard not seeing all the students, staff and people that I really care about," LaPierre said. "We expect nothing different from West De Pere and East De Pere, we know it's a small community but they come together for people that they care about." The game featured a 50/50 raffle, raffle baskets, minute-to-win challenges along with a presentation from some Packers guests who provided a check for LaPierre. Over the last several weeks, the DECA chapter organized a fundraiser featuring merchandise, with proceeds from sales going to support LaPierre as well.
