In Cleveland County, high winds ripped through power lines. Countywide more than 47,000 customers are out of power. “Can’t get gas, no grocery stores. Limbs are down everywhere. It’s causing a lot of chaos,” Diana Gibson who lives in bordering Cherokee County said. In Boiling Springs, street lights are dark and trees are blocking roads. Our crews found one open gas station packed with people. “People can’t work, powers out. We can’t call anybody. We don’t have any reception. We can’t text. Things are flooding. Things are leaking. Gas shortages. You can’t even get gas if you don’t have cash,” Gibson said. On top of the damage left behind by the storm Thursday, Cleveland County officials are also watching water levels closely. Fourty miles northwest, the Lake Lure Dam is near capacity which poses a threat to the Broad River which is already at major flooding levels. “The docks in there [under the water], and there’s a bank goes down and it’s usually there,” David Lee Roberts, Cleveland County resident said. Emergency management officials say at least a dozen families have been evacuated from the possible danger zone. “If it floods up to the top, I had to get my mom and let my mama know, because she lives up top of here,” Roberts said. Officials say they expect for the water to recede soon, but hope locals have an escape plan if necessary. “I don’t know I’m not prepared they say higher ground but I don’t know where I’ll go,” Gibson said.
